Valentine’s day, the most romantic day of the year?

It’s that time of year again when love is in the air, hearts flow freely and romance abounds. Flower shops are filled to capacity with roses. Chocolate sales will double or maybe even triple in some shops. And greeting cards…well let’s just say, Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest greeting card holidays, second only to Christmas. To many people, Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year. To others it is the saddest.

Studies have shown that approximately one in every ten young adults feel lonely, depressed or unwanted during Valentine’s Day. It is usually on that day that people assess the love (or the lack thereof) present in their lives. They often feel pressure and even distress leading up to February 14thand the commercialization of this holiday doesn’t help matters either. Paper hearts and cupid decorations are everywhere. Jewelry commercials flood the television airways. There is also an abundance of romantic songs being played on the radio. It’s enough to drive you insane, especially if you are single.

However, you don’t have to buy into the misconception. If you are a born again Christian and you are having feelings of loneliness or you are feeling unwanted, I really believe it is because your priorities are not in order. That’s right, I said it…your priorities are messed up. When you are child of God you never have to feel depressed, lonely or unwanted. You never have to feel that no one loves you because God loves you more than any human being ever could.

If you are single, know that your flesh will always try to make you feel inadequate or less than someone else who may be in a relationship. But when you start to have those feelings of inadequacy or insignificance just know that it is only the evil one and that you just need to cast that devil down.

Being a child of the Most High God means you can stop searching the world for love and start seeking a relationship with your Father. He will provide you with a love unlike anything you will find in this world. God wants a relationship with you. He wants you to cast all of your cares onto Him and trust Him. Even if you are alone in this world you don’t have to be lonely. Enter into a true relationship with the Lord and watch those lonely feelings melt away. Trust in Him and watch Him provide you with everything you need.

There is a quote from Mother Teresa which states:

“The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread…”

Everyone craves love. It’s natural. In the physical world it may be difficult to satisfy that craving or as Mother Teresa said, “remove that hunger for love”. But that is where God comes in. He can fill you up so that you never go hungry for love again. He can do it spiritually and He can also provide you with what you need so that you are fulfilled here in this physical world.

If you are not with the love of your life, in this world, on Valentine’s Day do not worry.  Cast out any devil that tries to make you feel depressed or lonely. Know in your heart that you have the love of the Lord and that His love is everlasting. Also know that nothing can separate you from His love. Finally, know that He is the Ultimate Valentine!
