Top temptations men face, 1

The best way for us to prove the authenticity of our Christian faith to our family— particularly to our wives and children is how we conduct ourselves when we’re at home, surrounded by the people who know us best.

Chuck Swindoll wrote an article which was adapted from his book, “For Dads” in the The Finishing Touch: Becoming God’s Masterpiece.  In the article Chuck mentions the top temptations father’s face.  Today I’d like to share temptation one with you.  Guys be mindful, alert and purposeful—conduct yourselves in that manner.  Temptation one:

  1. Give things instead of giving ourselves, our presence, our personal involvement.  Of course we know how important it is for us to provide for our families.  God’s Word admonishes us to do so; however, the temptation that Chuck is speaking about is not the basic need as First Timothy 5:8 refers to.  No, here, he is speaking of “Toys vs. the time battle.”

How much time do you spend with your kids?

A dad’s desire to make up for his long hours and absence by unloading material stuff on his family rather than being “there” when he is needed.  Like in the bleachers during ball games or in the audience during a band concert, like by your child’s side when the homework calls for a father’s encouragement, or driving the boat when your child is learning to water ski.  Nothing takes the place of a father who gets involved.   N-O-T-H-I-N-G!
